A line by line comparison you can check against a real statement.
What HiBid costs you, against what this would.
Change any figure and everything below recalculates. Every charge is itemized, and the seven assumptions behind the arithmetic are written out at the foot of the page.
A
Your figures
Six numbers and one toggle. Everything below follows from them.
Total hammer is every winning bid in one sale added together, before premium and tax. The default is a $12,000 sale across 300 lots, so about $40 a lot. Spot was 1.387 on 17 August 2026, and most Canadian business cards add around 2.5 percent on top. Results are in Canadian dollars.
B
Platform fees
Four charges on their side, three of them fixed in US dollars. One on ours.
| Charge | Billed | On HiBid | On Going Once |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software licence | USD 0.00 | $0 | Included |
| Auction fee | USD 0.00 | $0 | $0 |
| Bid fees | USD 0.00 | $0 | Nil |
| Webcast setup | USD 0.00 | $0 | Nil |
| Top up to the $250 monthly minimum | $0 | Nil | |
| Total per month | $0 | $0 | |
| Effective rate on hammer | 0% | 0% |
Currency conversion accounts for $0 of that annual bill. HiBid sets its prices in US dollars, so your cost moves with the exchange rate even when your sales do not.
C
Cataloguing labour
The bigger number. Set the reduction where you think it lands.
Now the bigger number.
Staff time spent photographing, describing, and keying items in, plus anything you send out for entry.
D
Combined position
Fees and cataloguing labour together, over a year.
| Per year | On HiBid | On Going Once |
|---|---|---|
| Fees plus cataloguing labour | $0 | $0 |
| Recovered | $0 |
Notes to the worksheet
Seven assumptions sit behind the arithmetic above. These are they.
The full rate card- HiBid rates are transcribed from their published pricing page as at August 2026.
- Software tiers are taken as USD 95 for one user, 145 for two to five, 195 for six to nine, and 295 above that, per month.
- The auction fee is treated as 2 percent of hammer in the currency of the sale. If a Canadian sale is instead billed as though the hammer were US dollars, the real figure is higher than shown.
- Bid fees assume three bids per lot at 25 cents, capped at USD 150 a sale. Anything past 600 bids reaches the cap, so most sales of any size pay the flat amount.
- Card authentication, catalogue only listings, and real estate event fees are left out. Putting them back widens the gap.
- Going Once is 1.75 percent on the first $100,000 of hammer, 1.00 percent to $500,000, and 0.50 percent above. The minimum is $250 a month, and there is no licence at any seat count.
- The cataloguing reduction is the one figure on this page you set yourself.
